K101 - Deaf and DeafBlind Awareness
Aims
This unit covers all the different types of deaf and deafblind people, what is acceptable terminology and understanding their preferred communication methods. It also covers what discrimination means and how
to avoid difficulties that affect deaf and deafblind people's access to communication.
It also includes information about technical aids, Language Service Professionals (LSPs) and the national organisations which work with deaf and deafblind people.
The course length is still to be confirmed but is likely to be 10 hours including 3-4 hours pre-course study
and assessment will be through a short written examination of multiple choice questions.
Assessment
There is a single assessment component: a 30 minute written examination, consisting of a combination
of multiple choice and short-answer questions. This is externally marked by CACDP examiners.

The Course duration is 10 hours but with tailor-made course can be arranged either 2 full consecutive

Course Provider
All Contents, including BSL materials and handouts about 'The Deaf Community and its Culture' shall be
provided by 'SIGNteach'. On completion of the course, 'SIGNteach' shall provide all candidates with an
evaluation form for their own keeping.
Venue
We can only offer this tailor-made course to companies / organisations / individual that have a minimum
8 or more candidates for the course.
Training will be provided in-house at your company/organisation.
The course is tailor-made to run over 2 consecutive days.
